After dropping Friday’s series opener against Virginia, the 16th-ranked UNC baseball team got one back on Saturday at Boshamer Stadium–as junior Ashton McGee hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Tar Heels a 5-4 victory.
Both teams were tied 4-4 entering the fifth inning, before a long streak of scoreless play was ultimately interrupted by McGee’s game-winning hit.
UNC improved to 32-12 with the win, while Virginia dropped to 26-19 with the loss.
In addition to McGee’s crucial RBI, the Tar Heels also received two RBIs from Ike Freeman and another from freshman Aaron Sabato.
