Despite leading by four goals late in the second half, the UNC men’s lacrosse team was unable to hold on for what would have been a crucial victory for its NCAA Tournament hopes–as the top-seeded Virginia Cavaliers rallied for a 14-13 victory on Saturday in Chapel Hill as part of the ACC Tournament semifinals.

Virginia attacker Ian Laviano scored with just under two minutes remaining to clinch the win for the Cavaliers (12-3), who advance to next weekend’s tournament final.

The Tar Heels–who received two goals apiece from Alex Trippi, William Perry, Andy Matthews and Justin Anderson–end the season with an 8-7 record.
