Struggles continue to mount for the 20th-ranked UNC men’s lacrosse team, which lost its sixth game in a row on Saturday at Kenan Stadium after falling 15-12 to the No. 11 Virginia Cavaliers.
It wasn’t exactly the return to Chapel Hill that the Tar Heels (6-6, 0-2 ACC) had hoped for in their first home game in over a month.
Matt Gavin led the team with three goals and an assist, while William Perry chipped in two goals and two assists of his own–but it would not be enough to snap out of what has turned into a seemingly never-ending slump.
Virginia (9-3, 1-2 ACC) fell behind 2-1 early in the game, but then reeled off eight of the next 10 goals in the first half to take full control of the proceedings.
The second half saw the Tar Heels cut the Cavaliers’ lead to 10-7, prompting another Virginia run–this time scoring three straight goals to go up by six and erase any doubt that may have surrounded the outcome.
