Playing on the road against the top men’s lacrosse team in the ACC, the 18th-ranked Tar Heels came up just short in their upset bid over the No. 4 Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday–losing by a score of 11-10.

Dox Aitken scored with 1:34 remaining to give Virginia (9-2, 3-0 ACC) the victory and also clinch his team the top seed in the upcoming ACC Tournament.

UNC (7-4, 1-1 ACC) tallied just 34 shots compared to 52 for the Cavaliers, but fought hard enough to put itself in position to have a shot at the win late in the game.

Nicky Solomon led the Tar Heels with three goals, while Timmy Kelly added two of his own.
