With time running out Thursday night in Chapel Hill, the UNC men’s lacrosse team found a way to overcome a three-goal deficit in less than four minutes on the way to a thrilling 11-10 victory over the No. 7 Syracuse Orange.

The game was an opening round affair for the ACC Tournament, meaning the Tar Heels (8-6) earned a place in Saturday’s semifinals against top-seeded Virginia with the win. Syracuse fell to 9-4 with the loss.

Syracuse scored three consecutive goals in the second half to break what had been a 7-7 tie, which appeared to have the Orange in position to take an easy victory.

The Tar Heels had other ideas, however, as Matt Gavin, Brian Cameron, and Zachary Tucci each found a way to score in the final four minutes to tie the game up with just seconds remaining.

Gavin then found the back of the net for a second time with only 18 seconds left on the game clock, completing the miraculous comeback and keeping UNC’s NCAA Tournament hopes alive.
