UNC head coach Hubert Davis’ success on the recruiting trail continues.

Just days after concluding a visit to Chapel Hill, five-star combo guard Simeon Wilcher has committed to Davis and UNC men’s basketball. He chose the Tar Heels over offers from Arkansas, UConn and Memphis, among others.

The announcement came during the current basketball team’s “Late Night” festivities at the Dean Smith Center, unbeknownst to Carolina fans.

Wilcher is 6-foot-4 and is from Roselle, N.J. 247 Sports ranks Wilcher as the No. 14 overall player in the 2023 class. He is the first player from the 2023 class to commit to UNC.

247 Sports describes Wilcher as “a multi-dimensional guard who can impact the game both on and off the ball on the offensive end of the floor.” He is currently shooting just over 26 percent from behind the three-point line.

“Wilcher is also a plus-defender on the other end of the floor with plus-size, length and lateral quickness,” the website said. “He has a good feel and IQ for the game and as he matures and gets stronger, he can be an impactful defender both on and off the ball.”

Wilcher will join a group of guards at UNC which will likely include Dontrez Styles, D’Marco Dunn and R.J. Davis.
