G.G. Jackson, one of the most highly sought-after recruits in the Class of 2023, announced his commitment to head coach Hubert Davis and the UNC men’s basketball team Wednesday afternoon, giving Davis his first top-10 commit as a head coach. Jackson announced the decision at his high school, Ridge View, in Columbia, S.C.

Jackson is rated as the No. 5 player in the country by 247 Sports and the No. 1 player by Rivals. The six-foot, nine-inch forward chose the Tar Heels over several other options, including Duke, South Carolina and playing professionally in the NBA G-League.

Jackson is the second five-star recruit to join UNC’s Class of 2023, along with guard Simeon Wilcher, who is rated as the No. 13 overall player in the class by 247 Sports. Jackson and Wilcher make UNC’s class the second-best overall for 2023, trailing only Duke.

“Jackson has an ideal basketball frame,” said Eric Bossi of 247 Sports. “He’s got long arms and a wiry build that will allow him to add needed strength without costing him athleticism, and make no mistake, athleticism is a big part of his game.”

Using 247 Sports’ ratings metric, Jackson is the sixth-highest recruit to ever commit to Carolina, sitting in between John Henson and James Michael McAdoo.
