Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels just scored one of their biggest-ever wins on the recruiting trail.

Caleb Wilson, a 6-foot-9 power forward from Atlanta rated as a five-star recruit and the No. 8 overall player in the class of 2025 by 247 Sports, announced his commitment to Carolina Thursday. He’s the highest-rated member of the class of 2025 and third overall to commit to UNC. In addition, Wilson is the eighth-highest-rated recruit since 2000 to join the Tar Heels.

Wilson chose Carolina over finalists Kentucky and Ohio State, though most recruiting outlets had Wilson’s recruitment as a two-horse race between the Tar Heels and Wildcats.

“Wilson’s combination of size, effortless mobility, and flexibility gives him extreme potential versatility on the defensive end of the floor,” writes Adam Finkelstein, director of scouting for 247 Sports. “His court coverage and total defensive metrics are off the charts as he can fly around the floor covering up mistakes, getting his hands on a ton of balls, and making plays.”

Wilson joins wings Derek Dixon and Isaiah Denis in UNC’s recruiting class set to join the team next season. The first five-star among the group, Wilson’s commitment skyrockets Carolina’s overall class ranking from No. 32 in the nation to No. 7.
