UNC Health Care Ranked Highly in US News and World Report 

UNC Health Care has come out in one of the top positions of the US News and World Report’s “Best Hospitals” ranking. Released on July 30, UNC Health Care has been given 22 “high performing” ratings in the report.

This year, these hospitals nationally ranked UNC Medical Center in the specialties of Ear, Nose & Throat; Cancer; Gynecology; Nephrology and Gastroenterology & GI Surgery. In order to be nationally ranked in a specialty, a health care facility must be rated among the top 50 hospitals in the nation.

“I am extremely proud of the physicians and co-workers across our hospitals who work each day to fulfill our mission and are responsible for this outstanding recognition,” said Wesley Burks, MD, CEO of UNC Health Care and dean of the UNC School of Medicine, in a press release. “As North Carolina’s health care system, the people of our state can be confident in the expert care and compassion provided at our hospitals.”

In June, UNC Children’s Hospital received national rankings in diabetes and endocrinology (#16), pulmonology (#16), orthopedics (#23), nephrology (#30), cancer (#36), gastroenterology & GI surgery (#36) and urology( #37).

Aside from their national rankings, UNC Medical Center also received “high performing” ratings in several other specialties — including psychiatry, pulmonology & lung surgery and rheumatology.
