UNC Hospitals are beginning to return to normal operations after services were scaled back due to a significant water shortage in southern Orange County Monday.

A water main break at the Orange Water and Sewer Authority facility on Monday morning led to a boil water advisory and the utility urging residents to limit water use to essential purposes. The leaked was fixed late Monday, according to OWASA, although the boil water advisory is still in effect Tuesday morning.

UNC Hospitals was forced to limit some services Monday, but a release from UNC Health Care said operations will be scaling back up to a normal level throughout Tuesday.

Visitor restrictions have been lifted. Emergency cases are once again being accepted and transfers are being reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

UNC Health Care clinics in Chapel Hill will resume normal operations at noon, officials said in a release.

The hospital is providing bottled water to patients and staff while OWASA is testing the water in the system.
