Two Hillsborough businesses were damaged in a fire early Saturday morning.

Officials said in a news release that an environmental lab and part of a meat market next door were destroyed when a fire broke out in the commercial district of US 70.

Crews from Orange Rural Fire were dispatched to the scene around 12:30 a.m. Saturday to reports of fire and smoke through the roof of Triangle Environmental Services.

“Firefighters found an extensive amount of fire when they arrived, and the fire spread to the Los Lago Meat Market #2 next door,” officials said Saturday. The meat market sustained fire, smoke and water damage.

The fire was contained within four hours as crews from Efland, Eno and New Hope fire departments assisted Orange Rural Fire.

There was one Orange Rural firefighter who sustained a minor injury.

County and state officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
