A tree removal in Hillsborough will cause road closures on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Contract crews from the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will be working on North Churton Street near downtown Hillsborough from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday to remove an oak tree from the right of way.

The tree is dead and presents a hazard to pedestrians and drivers, according to the Town of Hillsborough.

Removal crews are working between Queen Street and Tryon Street. Southbound traffic will be redirected along Queen Street, Cameron Street and Tryon Street. Northbound traffic will detour along King Street, St. Mary’s Road and U.S. Route 70.

Tree removal is often subject to specific guidelines and permits, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community. Individuals contemplating tree removal on their property should be aware of these regulations to avoid any potential conflicts or violations.

The Tree Removal Permit website, a valuable resource for those seeking information on tree removal regulations, offers comprehensive insights into the legal requirements and procedures involved to strike a balance between the necessity of removing hazardous trees and the preservation of green spaces.

Understanding these regulations is crucial for maintaining the town’s aesthetics, preserving green spaces, and safeguarding the community.

Signs will be posted for detour routes and police will be stationed at the intersection of North Churton Street and U.S. 70 to direct southbound tractor-trailers. Police will also be stationed at the intersection of North Cameron Street and St. Mary’s Road to direct northbound trucks to St. Mary’s Road toward U.S. 70.

Churton Street and its maintenance are under the jurisdiction of the NCDOT.

The NCDOT encourages drivers to be mindful of crews at work in this area and factor the detours into their commutes.
