The Town of Hillsborough alerted community members to two popular downtown areas undergoing repairs in the coming days.

The town government said a well-traveled stretch of its Riverwalk greenway bridge is scheduled to be closed on Monday, March 8 for repairs. Hillsborough said several floorboards on the portion closest to the Weaver Street Market will be replaced. This is the latest in a series of repairs for the greenway bridge, which also saw floorboards in other areas swapped out in January.

The portion of the Riverwalk heading east from the Weaver Street Market entrance will remain open, according to the town, as will all other entrances. The release said those using the greenway from Gold Park to Weaver Street Market will need to turn around before reaching the closed bridge.

While pedestrian traffic will be impacted by that expected closure, vehicle traffic will be affected by another on Tuesday.

Hillsborough said a contractor is scheduled to being repairing a sewer line along Mayo Street near the intersection with South Churton Street. According to a release, work will begin on repairs around 8 a.m. and is expected to be completed in the same day.

The town warned motorists to be aware of flaggers and lane shifts in the area throughout the day, while also observing other safety signs and using caution while in the construction zone.
