Coming off a shocking non-conference loss to Liberty to begin the spring season, the UNC men’s soccer team responded with a 3-0 victory over No. 4 Pittsburgh on Friday at Dorrance Field.

Jonathan Jimenez put the Tar Heels (4-3-2, 4-1-2) ahead with a goal in the 11th minute, while Giovanni Montesdeoca scored twice in the second half to cushion UNC’s lead.

It was the first ACC game of the spring for the Tar Heels, who handed Pitt (8-2-0, 4-1-0) its first conference loss of the entire season.

UNC racked up eight shots in the game compared to just three for Pitt. Goalkeeper Alec Smir earned his 15th career shutout victory and sixth of the 2020-21 campaign.
