UPDATE: An alert from the Chapel Hill Police Department at 5:54 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24, said James Elijah Dasher Jr. was safely located.


The Chapel Hill Police Department turned to the public to ask for help in locating a local teenager on Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 5 p.m., the department issued an alert saying it is seeking 16-year-old James Elijah Dasher Jr., who was recently reported missing. Dasher, who goes by the name “Lije,” was reportedly last seen around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 in the Greenwood Road area of Chapel Hill. Police said Dasher may be in the northern Chatham County or Briar Chapel area, and he is not believed to be in danger.

Dasher is described as 5-foot-9 and weighing approximately 140 pounds, with brown hair in a buzz-cut style. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and black basketball shorts.
