UPDATE: Chapel Hill Police shared an alert shortly after 9 p.m. on Monday saying Campero Lopez was safely located.


The Chapel Hill Police Department is asking the public for help in locating a missing teenager on Monday.

An alert shared by the department at 2:12 p.m. said a report has been filed for 17-year-old Maria Dolores Campero Lopez of Chapel Hill. Lopez was last seen around 3 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northfield Drive.

Chapel Hill Police said Campero Lopez is not believed to be in danger. She is described as 5-foot-2 and weighing around 200 pounds. A photo provided by police shows she has long, dark hair and brown eyes. Campero Lopez was last seen wearing a blue blouse with white rhinestones, blue jeans, and white tennis shoes.
