CHAPEL HILL – The city of Durham is hosting a two-day festival called Paradoxos this week, to help tech startups get off the ground and promote Durham as a tech-friendly locale.

It’ll be at the Carolina Theater this Thursday and Friday—with a Pitch Day on Thursday for startups to present ideas to potential funders, and a TED Talk-like event on Friday called The Next. Thursday evening will feature a party in downtown Durham with live music, local beer and food trucks.

Chapel Hill is traditionally known as a basketball town, but the local economy also got a big boost from this weekend’s NCAA baseball tournament—to the tune of more than a million dollars, according to the Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau.

With guests coming to town from New York, Florida and Maryland, local tourism officials estimate that each of the three days of the tournament generated $400,000 per day in local sales.
