The towns of Hillsborough and Carrboro are two of 14 communities nationwide recognized with the ETC Institute’s Leading the Way Award. The award is given to communities which report high resident satisfaction.

“I’m very proud that Hillsborough has been recognized by ETC Institute again for the results of our community survey,” said mayor Mark Bell. “We listen to what our residents think about the quality and value of services provided to residents, and our exceptional town staff align the town’s work to meet these expectations.”

According to a release from the Town of Hillsborough, its survey was conducted last fall and results were compiled in January. This is the second time Hillsborough has won the award.

Communities which win the Leading the Way Award rank in the top 10 percent in survey findings in three categories:

  • Satisfaction with overall quality of services
  • Satisfaction with customer service provided by employees
  • Satisfaction with the value residents think they receive for local taxes and fees

Hillsborough also exceeded the national average by more than 20 percentage points in several categories, including quality of town parks, feeling of safety and maintenance of town streets.

Elsewhere in North Carolina, the towns of Concord and Holly Springs also received the Leading the Way Award.
