The Greene Tract is a large parcel of land located off of Eubanks Road in Chapel Hill, near the Historic Rogers Road Neighborhood. The governments of Orange County and the Towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro jointly own the 164 acres which make up the tract.

Plans are in place to develop part of the tract into affordable housing, a park, a school and a nature preserve. According to Orange County Commissioner Jamezetta Bedford, the Thomas & Hutton engineering firm has been hired for the project.

“You have a public engagement, because everybody’s interested,” Bedford said in February. “And everybody’s going to have opinions about what should or shouldn’t go there. And I think it’s important for us to say that we’re not re-litigating the past. We already have some basic ideas.”
