Carrboro resident Stephanie Wade announced her bid for the Carrboro Town Council on Wednesday. Wade previously worked as a tech support analyst in the IT Department at UNC, and currently drives for Meals on Wheels of Orange County.
“As a native North Carolinian, community advocate, and mother of elementary school children, my passion for creating a better future for our entire community has led me to run for Carrboro Town Council,” Wade said in her campaign announcement. “I believe that my unique perspective and deep commitment to the well-being of our community makes me an ideal council member.”
Wade’s announcement emphasized her commitment to promoting sustainability and reducing Carrboro’s carbon footprint. Wade included several initiatives she would support, including green infrastructure and the town’s Climate Action Plan.
“As your councilperson,” she wrote, “I will work to protect our natural environment for ourselves and future generations.”
Other issues Wade outlined in her statement included transparency in council decisions, housing infrastructure within the town and community involvement in local government events.
“I will work tirelessly to ensure that we address and implement actions supported by our community to ensure our community remains a great place for all to live, work, and raise a family,” Wade said.
Wade is the third challenger to announce a bid for the Carrboro Town Council, along with Jason Merrill and Catherine Fray. Three of the council’s six seats are set to be decided this fall, with Sammy Slade and Susan Romaine leaving the council and Eliazar Posada defending his seat.
