Catherine Fray, a former chair of the Carrboro Planning Board, announced their campaign for the Carrboro Town Council Thursday night.

“My time on the Planning Board has shown me how much passion Carrboro residents have for our town,” Fray said. “I’ve spent the last decade learning how our laws shape what our town looks like and who can afford to live here.”

Fray has been a member of the Carrboro Planning Board since 2012. Braxton Foushee, the board’s current chair, endorsed Fray and said they “understand representation, being inclusive and bringing voices along that may not be at the table.”

Fray served two terms as the planning board’s chair. They also co-chaired the 2020-22 task force to develop “Carrboro Connects,” the town’s comprehensive plan for the next 20 years. The plan included input from more than 1,600 individuals and laid out the town’s goals based on themes of racial equity and climate action.

“This plan gives us an opportunity to make Carrboro a place with a home for everyone,” Fray said. “The actions that the town council takes in the next few years can set us on the path to be a more welcoming community. I want to keep contributing to that effort.”

Fray has also been endorsed by current town council member Eliazar Posada, who served on the planning board with Fray.

“They have shown they will hit the ground running on Council,” Posada said. “I am looking forward to continuing to work with Catherine.”

Two current town council members are not planning to run for reelection: Susan Romaine, who is leaving the position, and Barbara Foushee, who is running for mayor.
