A lot of attention across Orange County is currently focused on the upcoming municipal elections, but that doesn’t slow down the work of current elected officials across the community.

Chapel Hill will be holding a public information meeting Monday on potential modifications to sections of the town’s Land Use Management Ordinance related to conditional zoning. The meeting is an informal opportunity to learn more about the proposals and offer feedback.

Monday’s meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. in the first floor conference room of Chapel Hill Town Hall.

Chapel Hill is also holding a focus group on Wednesday in an attempt to gather feedback from parents of students in the Chapel Hill – Carrboro City School District to learn more about traffic concerns. That meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Room A of the Chapel Hill Public Library.

The Chapel Hill Town Council will also be meeting on Wednesday night to discuss a variety of issues, including the possible purchase of electric buses for the town’s transit fleet. The council will also hold a public hearing on a potential development on Dobbins Drive, review plans for road improvements near the site of the future Wegmans and will hear a concept plan for a Putt-Putt Fun Center being planned for Carraway Village.

Wednesday’s council meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.

Hillsborough commissioners will be holding a work session on Monday night. The board will discuss Shop Small Business Saturday, which is set for late November, as well as discussing two housing developments and receive a diversity, equity and inclusion top priority update. The commissioners meeting will be 7 p.m Monday in the Town Hall Annex board room.

Orange County commissioners do not have a full meeting this week, but the board’s complete count committee will be meeting Tuesday afternoon. The committee is focused on increasing awareness and encouraging residents to respond to the 2020 Census. That committee will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hillsborough Town Hall.

The county will also hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday morning for its northern campus project.

Carrboro Aldermen do not meet this week.

Across the county, preparations are underway for Halloween celebrations on Thursday. Early voting also is entering its final week ahead of the November 5 municipal elections.
