Carr Store Road in Hillsborough has now reopened following work on a replacement bridge related to the Town’s reservoir expansion project.
The improvements to the roadway and drainage of the state road in Orange County are the final projects related to the expansion of Hillsborough’s West Fork Eno Reservoir– located north of Efland.
Final tasks are in the process of being completed for this portion of the project, which began in April of 2018.
The first phase of the expansion included building the reservoir on the west fork of the Eno River in Cedar Grove. That phase began in 1998 and was completed in 2000.
This current phase began with the goal of expanding the reservoir’s volume for expected future demand by raising the normal water elevation by 10 feet.
All road improvements were funded by the Town of Hillsborough, which borrowed $3.3 million for the project.
These improvements included: vertical alignment changes, the replacement bridge over Carr Store Road, drainage improvements including a large diameter cross pipe beneath Mill Creek Road and raising the roads to improve motorist safety and to allow a higher level of water in the reservoir.
