Construction on the second phase of Hillsborough’s reservoir expansion project is expected to be completed in 2021 following delays due to the pandemic.

This phase includes the West Fork Eno Reservoir expansion, which will expand the reservoir’s volume for expected future demand by raising the normal water elevation by 10 feet. Construction for this portion of the project began in April of 2018.

The first phase of the project included building the reservoir on the west fork of the Eno River in Cedar Grove, and was completed in 2000 after starting in 1998.

“It’s been a huge project with lots of moving parts,” Hillsborough mayor Jenn Weaver said during an interview with 97-9 The Hill’s Brighton McConnell. “The weather is always there to throw a wrench in when it can, but the good news is that there were some road improvements necessary that went along with that reservoir expansion.

“The work to raise Mill Creek Road was completed,” Weaver added. “And after that was complete, construction turned to Carr Store Road. Updates for that construction are also on schedule.”
