A contractor with the North Carolina Department of Transportation will begin removing and replacing a bridge over the Eno River near Hillsborough next week. NCDOT crews will close Halls Mill Road and parts of Bane Road beginning Monday, May 25. Bane Road will only be closed at its intersection with Halls Mill Road.
According to the NCDOT, the Halls Mill Road bridge is approaching the end of its service life. The current bridge has a posted weight limit of 17 tons per vehicle, and the NCDOT says the replacement structure will have no posted weight limit.
The NCDOT estimates the road closure to last six months, with an estimated end date of Tuesday, Dec. 15. During that time, vehicles will detour to Brookhollow Road, Efland Cedar Grove Road and Highland Farm Road. Motorists should expect delays in the area and use caution when traveling through work zones.
Real time travel and traffic information can be found using the NCDOT’s website or on its official social media accounts.
