An intersection in northern Orange County is set to see a traffic pattern change beginning Wednesday morning.
A release from the North Carolina Department of Transportation said the intersection of Sawmill Road and Wilkerson Road, which is north of Hillsborough, will be changed to an all-way stop. A crew contracted with NCDOT will be on-site Wednesday morning, beginning around 8 a.m., to update the signage.
According to the state department, current signs at the intersection only direct traffic on Sawmill Road to stop. The change to an all-way stop is in response to a recent traffic study conducted for the area.
NCDOT said Tuesday the installation of all-way stop signage is expected to be complete by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, unless there is inclement weather. In its release, the department encouraged drivers to slow down when approaching the intersection and to be aware of crew members near the travel lanes and directing traffic.
More information on all-ways stops can be found on the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s website.
