Chapel Hill Mayor Pam Hemminger will be running for re-election this fall.

Hemminger made the announcement on her weekly appearance on WCHL’s The Aaron Keck Show.

“I’m just going to say, I’ve been asked,” Hemminger said, “yes, I’m running for re-election. I’ll make a formal announcement in June.”

Hemminger added that she felt progress had been made but wants to continue the work.

“It’s been a fascinating, exhausting and incredible journey, and I love it.”

Hemminger said she has enjoyed receiving input from different segments of Chapel Hillians.

“There’s such a good feeling here and a lot of great resources to pull from and a lot of great people who want to be part of it.”

With Hemminger running for re-election, there is a chance Chapel Hill and Carrboro leadership will remain steady over the next two years. Carrboro Mayor Lydia Lavelle also announced she would be running for re-election on The Aaron Keck Show last week.

Hemminger unseated then-incumbent Mark Kleinschmidt during the 2015 municipal election.
