The latest Carrboro Community Survey reports 97 percent of residents rate the town as “excellent” or “good” as a place to live, 91 percent rate it as a good place to raise children and 89 percent rate it as a place which is “welcoming and inclusive to all.”

The six-page survey was mailed to a random sample of 2,000 households between February and April of this year. The town received 407 responses, which were followed up by emails and phone calls. A second survey of residents within the town’s Qualified Census Tract was then conducted shortly after. According to the town, QCT survey respondents are more likely to be younger, live in rental housing and use public transit.

The Carrboro Town Council officially received the results of the survey at its meeting on June 4.

“This is certainly a great validation of the high-quality services that town employees provide to the Carrboro community,” said town manager Patrice Toney. “When reviewing the results, the town council expressed a sense of pride because the survey results reflect well on our employees and the services they deliver. Of course, we are also noting areas of concern and will be looking for opportunities for improvement.”

The town services receiving the highest levels of satisfaction were the fire services (95 percent), trash and yard waste collection (91 percent), recreation and cultural programs (84 percent) and police services (83 percent). Residents rated parks and recreation, housing and community services and transportation infrastructure as the most important town services.

When compared with cities and towns across the region and the country, Carrboro ranks significantly above average in all 33 areas included on the survey. Satisfaction with customer services rated 39 percent above the national average.
