The cause of the fire in Carrboro that was the subject of a nine-month investigation will officially go down as “undetermined.”

Carrboro officials made the announcement in a release on Thursday.

The fire broke out shortly after 5 a.m. on April 25, 2018.

There was initial confusion about the fire and under whose jurisdiction it fell. The property on Old Fayetteville Road was located in Carrboro’s extraterritorial jurisdiction and the investigation was then jointly carried out by Carrboro Fire-Rescue, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal.

A preschool facility had been using the barn as a temporary space. No injuries were reported in the fire, but two goats were killed.
