An overnight fire off Highway 54 left one Carrboro family displaced Friday morning, according to reports.

The Town of Carrboro shared a release detailing its fire department’s response to a townhouse fire in the early morning hours. Town officials say the fire began in a six-unit building in the Chambers Ridge community on Cedarwood Lane, which is off NC Highway 54.

The fire reportedly began in the townhouse’s attic between 2:30 a.m. and 3 a.m., with crews arriving to find smoke and flames coming from the roof. Carrboro said firefighters got the blaze under control in around 20 minutes, preventing it from spreading to neighboring residences sharing the common attic.

The town’s release said everyone in the building made it out safely Friday morning, despite the one family being displaced. Officials are continuing to investigate its cause, but initial damage estimates total $175,000 due to fire damage to the attic, roof and a second floor bedroom. Carrboro also said there is water damage on the first and second floor as well.

No resident or firefighter injuries have been reported in the incident.
