On the morning of September 30, Sydney West left the building in San Francisco, California, where she was living with friends.

Two months later, both her family and authorities are still trying to locate her.

West, 19, is a Chapel Hill native who was living in California to attend UC Berkeley. She has been missing since around 6:30 a.m. that day and was last seen on the Golden Gate Bridge wearing black leggings, teal hoodie, and Vans sneakers.

The search for West continues, as her family and friends keep updating a Facebook page titled ‘Find Sydney West’ to promote messages that West could possibly see. On Monday, the two-month mark of West’s disappearance, the family shared a heartfelt message acknowledging how much time has passed since they’ve had contact.

11/30.
Today has been a very hard day.
You have been missing exactly 2 months. 2 months!!!!!

Vigils in both Chapel Hill and California have also been held for community members to gather, offer support and share memories of West.

While the San Francisco Police Department continues to open its tip line to any with information on West’s whereabouts, the West family has also hired a private investigator to help with the search. According to the department, Scott Dudek now is involved with the search for West, which included a visit by him to the Golden Gate Bridge around the same time of day as West was last seen.

“There is heavy foot traffic at that time – bikers, runners, walkers as well as car traffic,” said Dudek. “I urge anyone who may have seen Sydney to call with any details. No detail is too small or insignificant.”

Dudek can be reached at 925-705-8328 and the San Francisco Police Tip Line is 415-575-4444.
