Construction on North Graham Street in Chapel Hill is slated to begin Monday, as the start of months-long work to replace sidewalks and street features.

The Town of Chapel Hill shared a release this week saying the project, which will eventually include improvements to North Roberson Street as well, will start June 15. The construction will include building new sidewalks or replacing existing ones to improve pedestrian mobility, safety and accessibility. Other improvements to do this will include building or replacing amenity strips, retaining walls, curbs, gutters and street lighting.

The construction will take place on the 100 blocks of both streets, nearest to West Rosemary Street. The town said both streets will remain open for vehicle traffic throughout the project, though portions of the sidewalk will be closed temporarily and on-street parking will be largely unavailable.

Construction on the street and sidewalk improvement project for North Graham Street and North Roberson Street is slated to last for four to six months, with construction times in front of individual properties expected to last between 2 and 4 weeks.
