Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens says construction on the upcoming Collins Ridge development could begin soon.

“I think they’re beginning to start the clearing and expect to put the infrastructure in, so I think any day now we’ll start to see some real construction happening up there,” said Stevens.

The property is a 125-acre plot of land that will be developed by Caruso Homes, a development company based in the Triangle and the Baltimore-Washington D.C. area.

Stevens says that much of the construction on Collins Ridge will rely on the N.C. Department of Transportation’s plans to extend Orange Grove Road from South Churton Street to Highway 70 Business.

“That will be one of the ways that there will be a second entrance into Collins Ridge,” said Stevens. “It will also help provide some alternative ways of getting around in that bottle-necked area of town.”

The Department of Transportation held an open house to gather public input on the project earlier this week.

Stevens says that it will likely be a year or two until any vertical construction begins on Collins Ridge.
