Orange County authorities are investigating a fatal stabbing.

Authorities were called to Green Pine Road in Cedar Grove shortly after eight o’clock Saturday morning. While the call was dispatched as a cardiac arrest, deputies and emergency services personnel discovered 50-year-old Anthony Latta dead from apparent stab wounds, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

“Any loss of life is unfortunate; however, this does not appear to be a random act of violence,” Sheriff Charles Blackwood said in a release. “We are conducting a thorough investigation in to the exact events that led to the death of Mr. Latta. If anyone has any information, I ask that you come forward.  You may remain anonymous when providing information.”

Blackwood added that the stabbing might be related to other criminal activity.

“All too often the crimes we investigate have a linkage to the sale and use of illegal narcotics.”

This is a time to remind residents, Blackwood said, that the Sheriff’s Office will connect residents with health services if they come in to receive assistance battling addiction.
