The names of the deputies and victim involved in a fatal weekend shooting have been released.

Officials say Deputies Duke Ashley and Tyler Chelenza responded to a request for assistance from Mebane Police Saturday night after a reported home invasion and assault.

The deputies were give the address for the suspect, Keo Crockett, who authorities found at his Efland residence on Virginia Lee Lane.

Officials said in a Sunday morning news release that the male at the home was identified as the suspect in the alleged home invasion in Mebane. Crockett allegedly exited the residence and pointed a handgun at the deputies.

Both deputies fired shots, according to the latest from the Sheriff’s Office, fatally injuring Crockett.

Ashley and Chelenza have been placed on administrative leave, as is standard for these instances, while the State Bureau of Investigations in investigating.

Ashley has been with the Sheriff’s Office since January 2012, while Chelenza has been serving since December 2011, according to authorities.
