The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a homicide investigation after a woman was found dead in her front yard on Sunday.

Officials said that an off-duty deputy found the woman in Hurdle Mills as he drove through the neighborhood, where he lives nearby.

Authorities said 46-year-old Anne H. Kirkpatrick, of 2509 Brown Road, was found dead around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The case is being investigated as a homicide, according to the sheriff’s office, but no other details were provided as to how Kirkpatrick was injured.

“The victim’s family has been notified, allowing us to make her name and address public,” Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood said in a release. “We understand the community’s desire to know more information; however, we are unable to provide additional details at this time. This is necessary to protect the integrity of the investigation.”

Anyone with additional information regarding any unusual activity Sunday morning in the area is asked to contact investigator Zach Baldwin with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at (919) 245-2939.
