A man facing two charges of first-degree murder made his first appearance in District Court in Hillsborough on Monday afternoon.

Armando Garcia Lopez was arrested in Greensboro over the weekend, according to law enforcement, after two people were shot and killed on Doc Corbett Road in Cedar Grove on Friday.

Authorities say deputies responded to a call on Friday morning of two individuals with gunshot wounds located in a single-family dwelling in northern Orange County. Both victims were deceased when deputies arrived.

Authorities initially identified one victim as 37-year-old Armando Aguirre Jr., of Graham. The second victim was identified in court on Monday as Manuela Gomez-Arreola.

Lopez was initially held without bond awaiting his first appearance and there were no arguments for a bond amount made by his defense attorney after the reading of both murder charges on Monday.

Lopez stood quietly with his head down through most of the hearing before District Court Judge Beverly Scarlett Monday afternoon as the proceeding went forward with the assistance of an interpreter.

No details were put forward on Monday in reference to any alleged motive in the killings.

Scarlett appointed the public defender’s office to handle the case in defense of Lopez.

He is due back in court in mid-August for a probable cause hearing.
