The Hillsborough Police Department is searching for a suspect in a shooting that injured a teenager during a block party Saturday night.

A release from the town said police issued warrants for the arrest of 18-year-old Cedric Lamont Watson Jr. on Sunday. The Mebane resident is sought on a ‘assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury’ charge, as well as discharging a firearm in town limits and additional pending charges.

Just before midnight on Saturday, June 3, Hillsborough Police said its officers responded to a shooting report in the 500 block of Riddle Avenue — which is north of U.S. 70 and near a police substation. Upon arrival, officers found a large block part “of about 200 people” and discovered a 17-year-old victim who had been shot in the back. The victim, who police said is also a Mebane resident, was transported to a nearby hospital and “is expected to recover” from their injuries.

The department’s news release said police officers were assisted Saturday night by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Hillsborough Police said Watson is considered armed and dangerous.
