The Hillsborough Police Department is investigating a shooting in the parking lot of Gateway Village Apartments that happened Monday night.

A release from the department on Tuesday said around 6:30 p.m., an unidentified person shot at four people sitting in a car near the 200 building of Gateway Village near Old NC 86. Police said their investigation revealed the car was hit “several times, and some bullets hit the apartment building behind the car.”

After the shots, both the victims and the attacker left the apartment complex. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office then responded to a suspicious condition call at the Timber Manufactured Home Community off Orange Grove Road, where the shot vehicle and three victims were found. Hillsborough Police reported one of the men interviewed on Monday had a gunshot wound to the arm and he was transported to the hospital for treatment before being released.

The fourth occupant of the car was reportedly not at the manufactured home community, but later arrived at Duke University Hospital with a serious gunshot wound. Tuesday’s release said the victim remains hospitalized from the injury.

Hillsborough Police say they are looking for any information regarding the shooting — specifically with help identifying the small dark-colored sedan that reportedly left the Gateway Village parking lot shortly after the incident. The department’s release said it’s possible the sedan is a Toyota Corolla.

Anyone who may have additional information or details from Monday’s shooting is encouraged to contact Hillsborough investigator Van St. Pierre by email or phone at 919-296-9533. Anonymous crime tips can also be left by calling 919-296-9555 or using the See it, Say it, Send it app or website.
