The Hillsborough Police Department is seeking the public’s help in locating a suspect in a hit-and-run collision from Tuesday afternoon.

A Wednesday release from the town government said an incident happened at the intersection of Old N.C. Highway 86 and Oakdale Drive at 12:37 p.m. A dark gray, four-door Mercedes-Benz sedan reportedly ran a red light while turning from Old N.C. 86 onto Oakdale and struck another vehicle head-on. According to Hillsborough Police, the Mercedes-Benz sustained front-end damage, while the driver of the stopped vehicle sustained injuries and additional damage.

Witnesses said the dark gray car then turned into a nearby Pizza Hut parking lot before fleeing in an unknown direction, according to Wednesday’s release. Other witnesses reported seeing the same car driving erratically through downtown Hillsborough prior to the collision, with police able to obtain surveillance video that confirmed the driver was speeding.

Hillsborough authorities describe the driver as having light-colored skin, a gray beard and possibly being white or Hispanic.
