The Hillsborough Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured one person the evening of Thanksgiving.

A release from the department on Friday morning said its police officers responded to the UNC Hospitals campus in Hillsborough around 7 p.m. on Thursday. The alert said a man admitted himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.

After assessing the injured man, Hillsborough Police said the 33-year old Burlington resident was shot while on Spruce Street — a residential road between Central Elementary School and West King Street.

Police said the man is in stable condition as of early Friday morning, and investigators believe the shooting is “an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public.”

Thursday’s shooting represents the latest in unconnected gun-related incidents in Hillsborough in 2023 — and the second to happen during a holiday. Two people suffered gunshot wounds at a house party on Riddle Avenue during the early morning hours of July 5. No charges were ever made by police.
