A suspect is in custody after a stabbing was reported in Chapel Hill Sunday morning.

Authorities said in a release that officers responded to a report of a stabbing shortly after 10 a.m. Sunday on Nunn Street near the Chapel Hill – Carrboro line in downtown Chapel Hill. Carrboro Police also responded during the initial stages of the investigation.

A male victim was stabbed “by someone known to him,” according to police. Both the suspect and the victim were taken to UNC Hospitals for treatment of injuries.

The suspect was taken into custody, police said, and “there is no ongoing danger to the public.”

Police did not initially identify either the suspect or the victim or their medical conditions.

The investigation into the stabbing is ongoing.
