The pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in northern Chapel Hill last Friday has died.

Police confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the pedestrian – 60-year-old Carey Canon, of Chapel Hill – died at UNC Hospitals on Tuesday.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at the intersection of Westminster and Banks drives around 8 a.m. Friday, June 28.

Witnesses said it appeared a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle and reported that the vehicle windshield looked as though it had been hit by a large object and had a spiderweb pattern from the break. Emergency officials indicated on radio traffic that CPR was being performed and a pulse was regained before the individual was transported to the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle – 22-year-old Manhua Wang, of Chapel Hill – has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear in court on July 15.
