A pedestrian was transported to UNC Hospitals after being struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning in Chapel Hill, according to police.

Authorities said officers responded to the collision around 7:10 a.m. at Northfield Drive and Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard.

The pedestrian was transported to UNC Hospitals for observations with injuries that police did not believe to be life threatening.

Law enforcement officials said 19-year-old Michael Harris Goldfeder, of California, was charged with failure to yield right of way for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Police said the incident was not related to heavy rains on Thursday from the remnants of Hurricane Michael.
