Authorities in Guilford County arrested a man wanted in Orange County after allegedly injuring his girlfriend because of her unwillingness to help with a break-in.

In a release, Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Alexander Wayne Gillett, 26, was arrested by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team on Thursday, January 16.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced their search for Gillett on January 10, one day after Gillett allegedly pistol whipped his girlfriend when she refused to help him break into a residence near Mebane Oaks Road. Authorities spotted him later that weekend in Guilford County and gave chase, but did not capture him.

The original release said when the victim refused to participate in the breaking and entering, Gillett hit her several times with a silver handgun with a black handle. He also damaged her phone by submerging it in water. Gillett then fled on foot, while the victim went to a residence in the Scotland Road neighborhood and asked for help. The release said the victim arrived shortly after 11 a.m. with injuries to her face and head.

Authorities placed Gillett in the Greensboro Detention Center, as he had pending second degree burglary, safecracking, second degree kidnapping and assault by strangulation charges in Guilford County. His first court date for the Orange County charges, for which he is under a $10,000 secured bond, is March 2.
