The Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left three people injured on Wednesday morning.

In a brief release before 9:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the UNC Hillsborough Emergency Department around 8 a.m. after two adults and a child arrived with gun shot wounds. The office later shared an updated saying the shooting occurred on Industrial Drive, a road that runs parallel to Interstates 40/85 near Mebane and the ABB facility.

According to the release, the vehicle the trio drove to the hospital in had “multiple bullet holes and a smoking engine.” The four-door sedan has since been towed as evidence.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said none of the gun shot injuries are believed to be life-threatening. Following their arrival in Hillsborough, however, two of the gun shot victims were reportedly taken to the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill for further treatment.

As the investigation continues, authorities indicated the incident appears to not be road rage related and not a random act, meaning sheriff’s deputies do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community at large.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said it is continuing its investigation by examining surveillance video of Industrial Drive from nearby businesses.

The sheriff’s office said Kevin Stewart is the lead investigator on this case. Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting aftermath, or anyone who may have additional information about it, is encouraged to call him at (919) 245-2925.
