Authorities from Alamance County arrested a resident after he stole a vehicle in Carrboro and ran over the foot of the car’s owner on Thursday morning.

Gregory Harris, 35, faces charges of felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle and misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon charges, according to the Carrboro Police Department. A spokesperson for the department said the suspect attempted to steal a car from the parking lot of Country Junction on West Weaver Street. The owner of the vehicle, which is listed as a Toyota Camry in the police’s incident report, then tried to stop the larceny. While doing so, the owner’s foot was run over by the vehicle.

According to authorities, Harris and the vehicle were recovered in Alamance County by the Graham Police Department. Harris is listed as a resident of Graham.

A spokesperson with the Carrboro Police Department said the vehicle owner did not require medical treatment for their foot injury on Thursday.

Harris was released by the Hillsborough Magistrate’s Office on a written promise to appear. His first appearance in court on these charges is set for Monday, November 16.
