The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Carrboro man believed to be responsible for a string of vehicle break-ins and thefts in the Briar Chapel neighborhood.

Kevin Hernandez Sierra, an 18-year-old Carrboro resident, has been charged with 11 felonies and three misdemeanors, ranging from felony breaking and entering to a motor vehicle with theft, felony larceny of a firearm, and all the way down to misdemeanor larceny.

“Deputies responded to multiple residences after receiving reports of breaking and entering into motor vehicles, vehicle thefts, and larcenies,” a release from the sheriff’s office said. “During the investigation, camera footage revealed a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Durham entering Chatham County prior to the thefts. Additional surveillance footage from the area showed multiple stolen vehicles meeting up with the stolen Durham vehicle before leaving the area. An individual matching the height and weight of the suspect was also observed in the footage.”

The release explained investigators were then able to link Sierra to the crime by obtaining a search warrant for his and other phones believed to be at the scenes of the thefts, and then using location data to confirm it.

Sierra is being held without bond, and is scheduled for a hearing at the Chatham County Justice Center in Pittsboro on Feb. 9, 2026.
