With students away and the coronavirus pandemic continuing to cause limitations to restaurants’ service, another Franklin Street business has announced it’s closing its doors.
The Blue Spoon Microcreamery announced on Twitter Thursday night it will be permanently closing due to complications presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The ice cream shop also posted a sign on its door to alert customers. The 140 East Franklin Street business had been selling pints at “buy one get one free” prices the last week.
“We would like to thank our guests for your loyalty and support,” the sign on Blue Spoon’s door says. “We will miss you!”
Prior to Blue Spoon, the address housed another sweet treat shop. The Sugarland cupcake and gelato shop operated in the space from 2009 until 2018. Blue Spoon first opened in early 2019.
The ice cream shop becomes the latest local business to close in Chapel Hill. The City Kitchen restaurant is in the midst of packing up furniture, kitchen supplies and more, a sign the restaurant will either be permanently closing or moving from its home in University Place. In August, Ms Mong and Moe’s Southwest Grill also both announced they would not be reopening.
Blue Spoon said any customers with gift cards are encouraged to email the business at info.bluespoon@gmail.com to receive refunds.
