Restaurants in the Chapel Hill community continue to adjust to a “new normal” as the COVID-19 pandemic prevents normal operations for many. This weekend, one Franklin Street establishment announced it would not be reopening its doors.

The Ms Mong Restaurant at 163 East Franklin Street shared a Facebook post with the community Friday saying the coronavirus contributed to the decision. The post thanked the UNC community for its patronage since the Asian fusion eatery opened in June 2015.

Ms Mong becomes the latest in a string of Chapel Hill restaurants to shutter their doors amid the ongoing pandemic. Two other Franklin Street restaurants announced they would be permanently closing: Lotsa Stone Fired Pizza in April and Lula’s in July.

Last week, the Tobacco Road Sports Cafe announced its Chapel Hill location has closed. In Southern Village, Town Hall Grill closed in June but plans to reopen later this year as an Italian restaurant.

Under Phase 2 of North Carolina’s reopening, restaurants are permitted to serve a limited amount of customers in-person while allowed to continue delivery and takeout services. Governor Roy Cooper recently announced the state would be continuing its Phase 2 of reopening until at least September.
